Title: A RESOLUTION BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RACINE COMMENDING THE GREEN BAY PACKERS FOOTBALL TEAM AND ORGANIZATION FOR A SUCCESSFUL FOOTBALL SEASON AND BECOMING SUPERBOWL XLV CHAMPIONS OF THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE WHEREAS, the Packers, who were decimated by injuries throughout the season, demonstrated resiliency and determination, bringing pride to our community and the “Cheesehead Following”; and WHEREAS, the 6th seeded Packers had to, and did, win their last five football games in order to reach the Super Bowl; and WHEREAS, the Packers’ players showed tremendous dedication to each other, appreciation to their fans, sportsmanship to their opponents, and respect for the game of football throughout the season; and WHEREAS, each player, coach, manager and staff member dedicated this season and their efforts to ensure that the Green Bay Packers reached their goal of bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay, Wisconsin after 14 years; and WHEREAS, Head Coach Mike McCart...

A RESOLUTION BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RACINE COMMENDING THE GREEN BAY PACKERS FOOTBALL TEAM AND ORGANIZATION FOR A SUCCESSFUL FOOTBALL SEASON AND BECOMING SUPERBOWL XLV CHAMPIONS OF THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE
 
WHEREAS, the Packers, who were decimated by injuries throughout the season, demonstrated resiliency and determination, bringing pride to our community and the "Cheesehead Following"; and
 
WHEREAS, the 6th seeded Packers had to, and did, win their last five football games in order to reach the Super Bowl; and
 
WHEREAS, the Packers' players showed tremendous dedication to each other, appreciation to their fans, sportsmanship to their opponents, and respect for the game of football throughout the season; and
 
WHEREAS, each player, coach, manager and staff  member dedicated this season and their efforts to ensure that the Green Bay Packers reached their goal of bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay, Wisconsin after 14 years; and
 
WHEREAS, Head Coach Mike McCarthy and his staff have led the Green Bay Packers to the top of the elite of the National Football League while instilling discipline, character, and integrity in the men and team they coach; and
 
WHEREAS, Quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 24 of 39 passes for 304 yards and 3 touchdowns and was named the most valuable player of the game; and
 
WHEREAS, the City Council and the Mayor of Racine desire to memorialize and publish the celebrated achievements of the Green Bay Packers.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Racine, as follows:
 
      1.  That the matters, facts and things recited in the Preamble hereto are hereby adopted as the official findings of the Common Council of the City of Racine.
 
      2.  That Mark Murphy, Ted Thompson, Head Coach Mike McCarthy, the organization's coaching and administrative staff, and the entire roster of the Green Bay Packers football team be, and they are hereby commended for their successful and historic 2010 football season and for winning Super Bowl XLV and becoming National Football League champions.
 
      3.  That the tremendous dedication the players and coaching staff demonstrated to each other and to their local communities, the appreciation they showed to their fans and the sportsmanship exhibited to their opponents, both on and off the field, should be and hereby are recognized as inspiring to our City and its residents.
 
      4.  The City Clerk is hereby directed to publish this Resolution in the Minutes of the City Council proceedings and to furnish by mail, a copy of said Resolution to Mark Murphy, the President and CEO of the Green Bay Packers.
