Recommendation:

10/16/2006 - Vilas Lund asked why this effort had been discontinued. Chairperson Baldukas explained that she had secured two enthusiastic volunteers from a group that does non profit volunteer work. Following removal of the computer previously used for this work Supervisor Bedard did not want his or Laurie's computers used by volunteers. Despite the fact that the third computer was then returned, after talking with Mr. Bedard, both volunteers declined to proceed!

Vilas Lund inquired as to why the two volunteers declined and why, over a 3 year period, so little work had been done. Director Snow said that Laurie should be working on the archive materials related to this program. Director Snow said he would talk to Supervisor Bedard about why the volunteers declined. He suggested that volunteers from Make a Difference Day might be recruited in the future. On a motion the item was deferred.

Recommendation:

01/15/2007 - A discussion was held on how to secure volunteers to do computer work on cemetery records. Chairperson Baldukas reported that she had approached several groups including Retired School Teachers and Volunteers of Racine. Two main problems were noted - that volunteers could work evenings and weekends ( when the cemetery office is closed ) and that the only computer available is the one in the chapel family room.

In answer to questions by Dale Slaasted and Sharon Baldukas, Supervisor Bedard said it would take about an hour or so to train a volunteer and that it might be possible for them to work on a laptop, though they will still need access to cemetery records at the office.
