Title: Redesignation of Racine Landmarks, 1525 Howe Street Whereas, Section 58-61 of the Municipal Code of the City of Racine establishes criteria for the designation of landmarks or landmark sites; and Whereas, the S.C. Johnson and Son Administration Building and the Research Tower at 1525 Howe Street meet four criteria: 58-61a. (1) Exemplifies or reflects cultural, political, social history. 58-61 a. (2) Is identified with personages. 58-61 a. (3) Embodies distinguishing characteristics of architecture, an architect or architectural materials, or craftsmanship reflective of the frame Italian Villa style. 58-61 a. Whereas, Section 58-61 of the Municipal Code of the City of Racine establishes criteria for the designation of landmarks or landmark sites; and  
Whereas, the S.C. Johnson and Son Administration Building and the Research Tower at 1525 Howe Street meet four criteria:
58-61a. (1)      Exemplifies or reflects cultural, political, social history.
 
58-61 a. (2)      Is identified with personages.
 
58-61 a. (3)      Embodies distinguishing characteristics of architecture, an architect or architectural materials, or craftsmanship reflective of the frame Italian Villa style.

Whereas, in 1974 the structures were placed on the National Register of Historic Places, in 1975 the buildings were initially designated as Racine Landmarks, and in 1989 the structures were placed on the State Reregister of Historic Places; and  
Whereas, on September 26, 2011, the City of Racine Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to recommend that the buildings be re-designated as Racine Landmarks.  
Further resolved by the Common Council of the City of Racine, that the buildings at 1525 Howe Street, those buildings historically known as the S.C. Johnson and Son Administration Building and the Research Tower, be re-designated as Racine Landmarks in accordance with the criteria contained herein and as described in action and descriptions relating to the Racine Landmarks designation of 1975.
