Ordinance 0016-18 - Common Council Regular Meetings - Regular Meeting Times
An ordinance to amend Chapter 2, Article II of the Municipal Code of the City of Racine, Wisconsin.
The Common Council of the City of Racine, Wisconsin, do ordain as follows:
Part 1: Repeal and Recreate Chapter 2, Article II, Section 2-62 of the Municipal Code of the City of Racine, Wisconsin, as follows:
Sec. 2-62. - Regular meeting times.
At its first meeting in December of each year, the common council by majority vote of the members present shall establish its meeting schedule for the following calendar year. The regular meetings of the common council presumptively shall be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the council chamber in the city hall at 7:00 p.m. Notwithstanding anything else contained herein, the common council shall meet at least once each month and the last meeting of the common council prior to the organizational meeting of the new council shall be held at 7:00 p.m. on the day prior to the organizational meeting, which shall be held on the third Tuesday of April. When the day of the regular council meeting falls on a legal holiday, or a primary or other election day, the common council shall meet in regular session on the next following secular day at the same place and time.
If the common council for good cause determines that the time and date of a regular meeting should be changed or cancelled, it may do so upon motion adopted by a majority vote of the members present at a regular meeting preceding the meeting at which the change occurs. The city clerk shall give notice of such change by a Class 1 notice prescribed by Wis. Stats. § 985.07, seven days before the changed meeting.
Part 2: This ordinance shall take effect upon passage by a majority vote of the members-elect of the City Common Council and publication or posting as required by law.
